Also known as Guardamar Del Segura is a municipality on the south east coast of the province of Alicante, in the region of the vega baja.
It has 14,261 Inhabitants ( Survey 2006)
On its outskirts is the mouth of the river Segura.
Inland from the coast there are sand-dunes and a barrier of pine trees to halt the advance of the sand, which used to inundate the village.

Guardamar is found to the south of the river Segura, where it feeds into the Mediterranean .
It has always formed part of the Vega Baja region, but also has links with the Bajo Vinalopo region For Linguistic, Historic, and Geographic reasons.
Traditionally it is considered the Southern-most point where one can still hear spoken the Valencian Language, Although nowdays it is very rare.
Its total area 11klms of the coast with beaches such as Los Viveres,Babilonia,centro,roqueta,moncayo,and Las Ortigas.
There is even a nudist beach.

In the municipality of Guardamar Del Segura one can find many historic and pre-historic sites of interest. There are Venecian Ruins that date from the 8th century BC.
Guardamar was in fact discovered by a Venician.
Possible the name of Guardamar in the Arabic era, was Almodovar, because they travelled from Andalucia in 944 to establish a settlement and there are ruins of a royal Arabic building in the locality.
